Millions of Americans wear full or partial dentures: fifty seven percent of those between the ages of sixty-five and seventy-four, according to national statistics. If you are missing some or all of your teeth, the Durham Dental Group can help.
Modern dentures are more life-like and comfortable than ever before, and help to improve your smile and overall appearance. Without them, facial muscles begin to sag. It also makes speaking and eating more difficult.
There are two basic types of dentures, both of which are provided by Durham Dental Group:
- Full dentures. A full set of dentures can be ready and inserted right the remaining teeth are removed.
- Partial dentures. Partials rest on a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth.
Dentures are custom-made for each patient. They’re made from impressions we take of your mouth. With full dentures, an acrylic base fits over your gums and matches them in color. The upper dentures have a base that covers the roof of the mouth, while the lowers are U-shaped to allow free movement of the tongue.
Dentures are subject to wear and tear, and need to be re-made, re-lined, or re-based periodically. How often that is needed varies from patient to patient. At very least, denture-wearers need to see the dentist for a checkup once a year.
The Durham Dental Group offer full and partial dentures to those who need them. We also provide dental implants, along with general and cosmetic dentistry. Make an appointment for a consultation today.
